Battery resting voltage drop after trying to start
She took the car to Autozone where they tested the battery and alternator and said both were fine. I measured the voltage across battery posts to be 10.6V. After jump starting it and running it for a few minutes, we turned the car off and measured the voltage across posts to be 12.6V. We tried to start the car again but couldn''t.

There are two voltage sources when a battery charger is used. Voltage sources connected in series are relatively simple. When voltage sources are in series, their internal resistances add and their emfs add algebraically. (See Figure 21.15.) Series connections of voltage sources are common—for example, in flashlights, toys, and other appliances.

When the battery voltage reaches 14.4 volts this begins the absorption charge step. This is where the voltage is held at a constant 14.4 volts and the current (amps) declines until the battery is 98% charged. Next comes the Float Step. This is a regulated voltage of not more than 13.4 volts and usually less than 1 amp of current.
